Artificial Intelligence And Cybersecurity: Balancing Dual-use Challenges And Embracing Opportunities For A Secure Future

Abstract

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into cybersecurity frameworks offers immensepotential for proactive threat detection and mitigation. However, this advancement alsopresents significant challenges, including the potential misuse of AI in cyberattacks. After abrief introduction to the dual-use nature of AI from a cybersecurity perspective, this policybrief argues for a collaborative approach among G7 nations to address these challengesand maximise the benefits of AI in cybersecurity. It makes recommendations for improvinginformation sharing, establishing common standards, ensuring the trustworthy operation of AIsystems, and engaging the young developer community.
