Matt leads GARDP’s External Relations functions since January 2020. Prior to that, he worked in several roles in global health related to policy and financing of innovation and access to health products, most recently at the World Health Organization (WHO) in both the Office of the Director, Essential Medicines and Health Products and Science Division. From 2016, during his time as Senior Advisor to a public affairs consultancy firm, he set up a partnership with organizations from across the global health ecosystem and led its multilateral policy work during two G20 Presidencies. He has also held both full time and consultancy roles with organizations such as Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV), the Global Alliance for TB Drug Development (TB Alliance), the TB Vaccine Initiative, the Global HIV Vaccine Enterprise, the International AIDS Society and JP Morgan Chase. At MMV he helped to build the External Relations department following its creation – supporting the preparation of the 2011-2016 Business Plan and the departmental functions related to its implementation, particularly resource mobilisation, policy advocacy and stakeholder management. Matt’s research training and academic pursuits are in the social, political and economic sciences. He holds dual British and Australian nationalities.
