João Francisco Maria is the General Coordinator of sociobioeconomy at the Secretariat of Green Economy in the Ministry of Development (MDIC), responsible for policies for indigenous peoples and traditional communities across Brazil's six biomes. João has a Master's in Public Policy from the University of Oxford and a Political Science from the Federal University of Pernambuco. Author of the book Caminhos para Nova Política (ed. Loyola - with a foreword by Marina Silva, Brazil's Minister of Environment) and Universalização do acesso à água para o combate à pobreza no Brasil: tecnologias, estratégias e políticas públicas (Kindle eBook, 2020). He is a full member of the National Council of Indigenous Policy (CNPI). He has worked at FUNAI (the federal Indigenous agency) in the General Coordination of Isolated and Recently Contacted Indigenous Peoples. He is also a Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV) professor in ESG and green economy.
