This session is curated by T20 Task Force 3 Lead Co-Chair Moekti Handajani Soejachmoen, Co-Founder & Executive Director, Indonesia Research Institute for Decarbonization (IRID).
The fact that climate change has already happened needs a global effort to address it. Tackling the cause of climate change is imperative. At the same time, many nations around the world are in needs for development, to improve the welfare of the people. Energy is key for any development, and the demand for it will increase along with the number of population and the level of wealth. Development process in the past has emitted greenhouse gases that lead to the changing climate as we experience it. The biggest challenge globally is to fulfil demand for energy without sacrificing the health of our atmosphere. This cannot be done by a single nation or actor; it has to be done in a concerted manner amongst nations and actors, even so each country has different capacity and circumstances.
The Chair of the Energy Transition Working Group of the G20 delivers a keynote speech.
