Prof. Dr. Anna-Katharina Hornidge is director of the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS) and professor for 'Global Sustainable Development' at the University of Bonn, responsible for the field of development sociology. Before she came to DIE in March 2020, she was professor for 'Social Sciences in the Marine Tropics' at the University of Bremen and head of the Department of Social Sciences and the research group 'Sociology of Development and Knowledge' at the Leibniz Center for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT) in Bremen. From 2006 to 2015 she worked as a senior researcher for the Center for Development Research (ZEF) at the University of Bonn and from 2014 to 2015 worked as a professor and director in the department 'Social and Cultural Change'. Ms. Hornidge is a Southeast Asian scholar and sociologist with training at the Universities of Bonn, Berlin and Singapore. She did her doctorate in Berlin and Singapore on the development of knowledge societies and habilitated at the University of Bonn on global knowledge discourses and their local consequences in Southeast and Central Asia and received the venia legendi for development research at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Bonn. Her main research areas include Southeast and Central Asia, East and West Africa. In addition, Ms. Hornidge acts as an expert in several advisory boards at national, EU and UN level - for example as co-chair of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network Germany (SDSN Germany). In her research, Ms. Hornidge focuses on (a) the role of different types of knowledge in and for change processes and (b) issues of natural resource governance in agricultural and marine contexts. Conceptually, she relies on social-constructivist, scientific and technical studies and discourse-analytical approaches and deals with the paradigm of the mobility turn. In her work, Ms. Hornidge aims to contribute to a more locally anchored, globally diversified empirical understanding of communicative processes in imagining the future and shaping realities, Ms. Hornidge heads IDOS, one of the leading research institutes in the field of development policy. Through excellent research, policy advice and training, the institute contributes to finding solutions to global challenges. In addition, IDOS houses the secretariat of SDSN Germany - a network founded by German knowledge centers and partners from civil society and the private sector, which promotes sustainable development in Germany and supports German commitment to sustainable development in the EU and in the world. SDSN Germany and its members are part of the global SDSN.
