he Think7 process, as part of the dialogue with civil society of Germany’s G7 presidency, will be kicked -off with a digital inception conference on 24th – 26th January 2022. In partnership with THE NEW INSTITUTE, we will welcome around 300 representatives from think tanks, research institutions, foundations, civil society, and politics from the G7 countries and beyond.
The inception conference will be officially opened on January 24th by Jörg Kukies, G7 sherpa to Germany´s chancellor Olaf Scholz. The government representative will introduce the working priorities of the German G7 presidency which the German government will announce shortly before the inception conference.
During the conference, the participants will decide on the topics of the task forces which will work to support the priorities of the German G7 presidency with research-based policy recommendations. Currently, we are expecting task forces on the following topics: economic recovery, global health, climate and environmental protection, inequality and social cohesion, digital governance, and international cooperation for the global common good. The taskforces will be chaired by renowned experts from the G7. Over the next months, their members will work on policy recommendations which are conveyed to the G7 to inform and inspire the G7 summit which will take place at the end of June in Schloss Elmau which is located in the German Alps.
The exact focus of the working groups, as well as their members, will be gradually published on the new Think7.org website in the coming period. We will also make the policy recommendations available on this website.
The Global Solutions Initiative and the German Development Institute/Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) have been mandated by the German Chancellery to lead the Think7 engagement group as part of the German G7 Presidency 2022.
