Conferences & Workshops
The Global Solutions Initiative provides recommendations and visions for the Group of Twenty (G20) on major, global challenges. The visions rest on recoupling economic prosperity with social prosperity. To generate policy proposals, the Global Solutions Initiative brings major think tanks and research organizations together in its Council for Global Problem-Solving.
To stimulate underlying research and connect researchers to relevant policymakers, the Global Solutions Initiative is associated with various workshops, conferences and research networks that share the recoupling vision, such as the Social Macroeconomics Network of the ESRC Initiative on Rebuilding Macroeconomics, the OECD Initiative on New Approaches to Economic Challenges (NAEC), and ERINN (Economic Research on Identities, Norms and Narratives).

June 26-28, 2022 | Schloss Elmau, Germany
G7 Summit 2022
The G7 Summit 2022 will take place from 26 to 28 June at Schloss Elmau in the Bavarian Alps – as did the last G7 Summit under the German Presidency in June 2015. It will also be the seventh Summit to be hosted by Germany. The first time the G7 heads of state and government met under a German Presidency was in Bonn in 1978.
“We will make the most of our G7 Presidency to ensure this group of states takes on a pioneering role – in the pursuit of climate neutrality and an equitable world,” said Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz at the handover of the G7 Presidency. Many of the goals Germany set itself at the beginning of the year had gained even greater urgency in view of the changed global situation, stressed the Federal Chancellor at the Global Solutions Summit at the end of March, referring to the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine.
The G7 consists of Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, Canada and the USA. The European Union is also represented at all G7 meetings. The Presidency rotates between members on an annual basis. Germany takes over the Presidency from the UK in 2022 and will be succeeded by Japan in 2023.

Thematic priorities are the development of antiviral drugs for pandemic preparedness, the One Health approach and global health challenges posed by zoonoses and antimicrobial resistance, the impact of climate change on polar regions and ocean, and the decarbonisation of the energy system.
At the Science7 Dialogue Forum, the joint statements will be presented and discussed with national and international experts and the public. The presidents of the science academies of the G7 countries will hand over the statements with concrete recommendations to Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

Its objective is to ensure that G7 leaders make concrete political and financial commitments that can have a tangible, lasting and transformative impact on the lives of women and girls in all their diversity. Women7 hosts rotate on an annual basis along with the G7 presidencies.

Think7 Summit 2022
The Think7 Summit is organised by the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) and the Global Solutions Initiative (GSI), as think tanks mandated for the Think7 process during the German G7 presidency in 2022. Taking into account the repercussions of the war in Ukraine, we will present and discuss the key policy recommendation put forward by the Think7 Task Forces on Climate and Environment, Sustainable Economic Recovery, Global Health, International Cooperation for the Global Common Good and Social Cohesion, Economic Transformation and Open Societies. With high-level representatives from the German Federal Government we want to enter into dialogue about the contribution of the G7 Summit in Elmau to solving the most urgent global challenges.
A large number of representatives from leading scientific institutions and think tanks from G7 countries will participate in the Think7 Summit. We look forward to facilitating exchange between them and decision-makers from the German government as well as representatives of international organisations, civil society, labour and business. At the Think7 Summit we will also build bridges between the Think7 and Think20 process, which brings together think tanks from G20 countries.
The Think7 Summit will be an on-site event. Parts of the Summit will be held as hybrid sessions. The on-site venue will be the premises of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung and the German Council on Foreign Relations in Berlin.

Evening Talk VI – Sustainably out of the crisis? (in German)
Tagesspiegel
With the 2030 Agenda, the global community has set 17 global goals for sustainability. In addition to ecological and economic sustainability for a forward-looking society, the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations also firmly anchor the goals of social sustainability. But what is the real state of cohesion in crisis-ridden times like these? It is already becoming clear that the economic recession caused by the Corona pandemic and the coming massive sovereign debt crisis will provoke conflicts over prosperity and that social fault lines in society will become even more apparent. This poses major challenges for the government as well as for companies and society.

On the occasion of the handover from the Chair of T20 Saudi Arabia to the Chair of T20 Italy, some key questions will drive the debate: what are the lessons learned from past presidencies?
